Grading
Math:
Math grades are standards based. For any given grade level, there are about 25 Common Core State Standards. Each chapter in our math books covers about 1 to 8 standards. Students are assessed at the end of each chapter and at the end of each trimester. Each standard receives a separate score on the test and on the report card. A 1 for a given standard means the student is not meeting the standard. A 2 means they are partially meeting the standard. A 3 means he/she is meeting the standard. Finally, a 4 means the student is exceeding the standard. For math, that means getting no problems, even partially wrong, for the entire trimester for that standard.
This year, I will be using Powerschool to keep track of your child's homework completion and progress in meeting the standards. You and your child can check Powerschool any time to see how he/she is doing.
Science:
To keep up with your child's current progress in science, you can log in to Powerschool to look for grades and for missing assignments. You will see assessments and classwork there. You can check to make sure they are handing in their assignments and see how they are doing with meeting the standards.
